When we imagine a classic burger, we see a bun, patty, a slice of cheese, a leaf of lettuce, onion and tomato.
These are basic, well-known ingredients.
However, there are lot more burger toppings.
What else can we add to it?
Vegetables.
In addition to the above mentioned burger “classics”, cucumbers, whether raw, pickled or preserved, can be a perfect fit.
Slices of grilled eggplant or paprika will give the burger an interesting taste.
A light acid can be added by dried tomatoes and olives.
Instead of classic lettuce, you could use rocket, lamb’s lettuce or even fresh spinach leaves.
Fruit in a burger?
Why not!
Avocado, as a good source of healthy fats, can fit perfectly in a burger.
You can cut it in slices or use it to grease the bread bun.
For fans of sweeter, refreshing flavours, the perfect topping could be a slice of grilled pineapple or caramelized pear.
Mango chutney could also be an interesting addition.
Instead of classic cheddar cheese, we could use mozzarella, salty Feta or a distinctive blue cheese.
Another interesting topping to a burger is grilled Oscypek or Halloumi cheese.
Don’t forget about sauces when composing the burger.
In addition to traditional ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard, try out green guacamole made of avocado, ajvar made of baked bell pepper, pesto from basil or dried tomatoes, or the yogurt garlic sauce or tzatziki.
As a sauce you can also use a cranberry jam, mango chutney, pineapple or red onion, or even hummus.
A simple burger base, which is bread and beef, offers great opportunities for a variety of toppings.
